Serena Williams has officially withdrawn from the WTA Finals in Singapore which starts on October 23.
The withdrawal means that Angelique Kerber, winner of two Grand Slam titles this year, will end the season as the world number one. Kerber supplanted Williams at the top of the rankings by winning the US Open and the latter lost in the semifinals to eventual finalist Karolina Pliskova.
