The event has a total financial commitment of £ 31.6 million. The men’s and women’s singles champions will each receive £ 2.2 million. The men’s defending champion Andy Murray is the top seed followed by Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. On the ladies side, defending champion Serena Williams won’t be competing this year due to pregnancy. Last year’s finalist and current world number one Angelique Kerber is the top seed followed by Simona Halep and Karolina Pliskova.

With the absence of Serena Williams, the ladies field has just become wide open. We’ve just witnessed then-unseeded Latvian Jelena Ostapenko storm her way to her first Grand Slam title at the French Open last month and this could very well be the case at the All England Club. The world number one ranking is also up for grabs by the end of the tournament with Kerber, Simona Halep and Karolina Pliskova having a shot to secure this. Home favorite Johanna Konta is projected to do well in this event while former champions Venus Williams and Petra Kvitova not to be overlooked.
The heavy favorite to win this year’s Wimbledon is none other than seven-time champion Roger Federer. The Swiss Maestro won the Australian Open earlier this year for a record-extending Slam haul of 18. He also swept the prestigious Sunshine Double in the US. He skipped the claycourt season to prep up for his favorite tennis surface. Certainly not to be missed is 10-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal who is also a two-time champion at the All England Club. Defending champion Andy Murray might be overlooked due to less than stellar results this season but should not be underestimated. The same case for Novak Djokovic, while ranked 4th, was bumped to number 2 seed due to better grasscourt results the past two years.
