Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal on course to meet at Wimbledon 2017 final

The Roger Federer – Rafael Nadal rivalry resumes at the All England Club next week with both players on course to meet at the Wimbledon 2017 Men’s Singles Final.

The draws of next week’s Wimbledon Championships have been revealed on Friday, June 30 and both of these ATP superstars are drawn on the opposite ends which means that they can only meet at the championship round should they manage to defeat the six players that they’ll play against along the way.

Unlike other Grand Slams, Wimbledon adds a surface-based system to reflect the individual player’s grass court results on top of the ATP Rankings the week prior to the event. Defending champion Andy Murray is the top seed followed by Novak Djokovic. Djokovic, ranked fourth, was awarded a higher seeding due to his better results in the past two years. Last year’s semifinalist Roger Federer was promoted from fifth to third seed and second-ranked Rafael Nadal was relegated to fourth seed due to his absence in last year’s edition.

Should the seedings hold, Nadal will face Murray in the semifinals while Federer will play against Djokovic in the other.

Federer holds a 3-0 head to head series lead against Nadal this year with wins against the Spaniard at the Australian Open final, Miami final and Indian Wells round of 16. The Swiss Maestro skipped the claycourt season and Nadal would go on to gain momentum on his favorite surface – winning his 10th Monte Carlo Masters, 10th Barcelona Open, 5th Madrid Masters title and his 10th Roland Garros title.

Federer lost his first match from break in Stuttgart but rebounded to win his 9th title at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle last weekend. Nadal opted to skip the pre-Wimbledon grasscourt tournaments but reportedly took part in exhibition matches this week.
