Aegon Classic: Maria Sharapova ends campaign in semis

Maria Sharapova ended her campaign at the Aegon Classic in the semifinals after she lost to China’s Li Na 6-4, 6-4.

The former world number one dropped her serve six times during the match to virtually hand the victory to the tournament fourth seed. Li will face Slovakian player Magdalena Rybarikova in the final on Sunday.

Sharapova held a 5-0 record against Li prior to the match. The last time they played was in last week’s Roland Garros where the Russian outlasted the Chinese player in the fourth round.
“I broke her many times so it did not feel like a grasscourt match. I lost to her so many times before, so I thought if I lose again then I should not worry. That made me very relaxed today,” Li was quoted as saying after the match.

Meanwhile, 13th seed Rybarikova reached her first tour final when she beat Sania Mirza 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 in a classic display of serve and volley tennis.
