Davis Cup 2011: Philippines vs Japan tie generates interest

The Davis Cup Group I Asia Oceania Zone first round tie between Japan and Philippines starts on March 4 at the world-class Plantation Bay Resorts and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines and the upcoming matches have generated so much interest that the tickets are reportedly nearly sold out as revealed by Philippine Davis Cup Administrator Randy Villanueva.

The Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) has allocated 1,500 tickets for the three-day event.

The Philippine Davis Cup squad is composed of Treat Huey, Johnny Arcilla, Cecil Mamiit, Elbert Anasta and Patrick John Tierro (alternate). The Japanese squad is composed of Go Soeda, Tatsuma Ito, Taka Suzuki and Suichi Yugita.

Japan emerged victorious in the past three Davis Cup encounters with the Philippines. In the same round last year, Japan won 5-0. The matches were played in Osaka.

Philippines maintained its Group I seat after beating South Korea in September last year.

The Davis Cup 2011 Philippines vs Japan singles and doubles matches will start on March 4 and ends on March 6.
