Rafael Nadal to compete at Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 2011

World number one Rafael Nadal skipped the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, an ATP 500 claycourt tournament, last year to have more time to rest in time for the Madrid and Rome ATP 1000 tournaments. However, this year, the Spaniard has confirmed his participation at Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 2011 which begins this week.

Nadal will have a couple of days rest after winning the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters for the seventh time on Sunday after beating compatriot David Ferrer.

When asked about what he feels about his tight schedule at this point, the top-ranked player said that even though spending more time on court can be tough for his body, he sees this as a great preparation for the tough claycourt season.

Nadal has won the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell title five times (2005 to 2009). The Spaniard revealed that after Barcelona, he’ll take part in two more claycourt events – the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments in Madrid and Rome.
