Russia’s Maria Sharapova reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal in two years after she defeated 12th-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 7-6, 7-5 on Monday. The seventh-seeded tennis star is still search for her first Roland Garros title, having already won the other three Grand Slam titles.
Sharapova struggled initially in the first set, trailing 1-4 against the 2006 French Open junior champion before clawing her way back in most of the match but eventually finishing both sets.
Sharapova’s next opponent is 15th seed Andrea Petkovic of Germany. Petkovic beat Maria Kirilenko of Russia.
