2011 US Open Predictions: Who will win?

The 2011 US Open is the fourth and last Grand Slam event of the season and as early as now tennis fans are already picking out their favorites to win the hardcourt Slam title. The defending champions are Rafael Nadal and Kim Clijsters. Nadal claimed his 10th career Grand Slam title after beating Novak Djokovic in the final while Kim Clijsters successfully defended the title after defeating Vera Zvonareva.
For the US Open men’s singles event – all eyes are focused on the world’s top four or the “Big Four” as dubbed by most tennis aficionados. World no. 1 Novak Djokovic is a two-time finalist in this event and having won two Grand Slam titles this season [Australian Open, Wimbledon], he’s a heavy favorite to win once more. World no. 2 Rafael Nadal is an automatic favorite since he’s the defending champion. World no. 3 Roger Federer is a five-time US Open champion. World no. 4 Andy Murray reached the final in 2008. Former top-five player Juan Martin Del Potro should not be counted out as well, considering that he won the title in 2009.

On the other hand, the US Open women’s singles event has a wide-open draw. Defending champion Kim Clijsters is struggling since the French Open due to foot injury. The Williams sisters are back and may cause serious damage in the draw but that depends if they are 100 percent healthy to compete in this hardcourt tournament.
