2011 China Open: Berdych ends title drought
By Tennis Guru on Oct 10, 2011
Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic finally earned his first title of the 2011 season by winning the China Open tournament. The Czech player beat Croatia’s Marin Cilic 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 on Sunday’s final in Beijing.
Berdych will move up to no. 7 in the ranking for the year-end ATP World Tour Finals in London. He’s aiming to qualify for the prestigious tournament for the second straight year.
“To win this title means really a lot to me because it’s after 29 months. It was quite a long time, so I’m happy that I could break this up. I think I couldn’t have a better place to win a title than here in Beijing,” Berdych said.
“I did a great move to have a good chance to qualify for London. Still, these two weeks in Shanghai and Paris I really need to do well. I want to do well. It just gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season and for the rest of the tournaments. So I’m really looking forward to that. I hope I can keep my level of game what I did and hopefully to win even more matches,” he added.

Man, Berdych is really picking it up. He trounced Fed in Cincinatti, and apart from a few slip-ups, has seemed way more mentally solid this year than in season’s past.
Other than the newfound mental strength, it seems to me like he’s just become unbelievably dominant along the forehand-to-forehand diagonal.
I stumbled across a really interesting article recently on “tennis tactics.” According to the site, strengthening your “aggressive forehand rally” can double your quality of play. http://www.collegetennis.me/2011/10/tennis-tactics-1-shot-that-will-double-your-wins/
