2012 Wimbledon Championships Prize Money Breakdown

The total prize money for the Wimbledon 2012 Championships tournament which begins on June 25, 2012 will be 10 percent higher than last year’s. According to the official Wimbledon website, the total prize money stands at £16,060,000 compared to last year’s £14,600. The Men’s and Women’s Singles winners will each receive £1,150,000, an increase of 4.5% from last year’s. The notable increase is in the earlier rounds, with first round losers getting £14,500 compared to l1ast year’s £11,500 – a 26.1% increase. This has been made possible after the organizers of the French Open, the claycourt Slam tournament that just concluded last week, has implemented the scheme where early round losers will get significantly higher payout.
