Serena Williams outlasts “Golden Set” maker Shvedova in three sets

The highly anticipated fourth round match between four-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams and Kazakhstan’s Yaroslava Shvedova ended in a tight fashion with Williams prevailing in three sets 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 to reach the quarterfinals. Shvedova grabbed headlines during the weekend when she created the “golden set” record for winning all the 24 points in succession to clinch a set victory and eventually the match against Sara Errani of Italy.

Williams had an easier time clinching the first set but Shvedova found her momentum in the second to force the match into a tiebreaker. Williams broke Shvedova’s serve to grab a 6-5 lead before serving for the match.
