Novak Djokovic to face Tsonga for China Open 2012 title

World number two Novak Djokovic is aiming for his third consecutive China Open title on Sunday and will face third-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Djokovic has a 7-5 head-to-head series lead against Tsonga and has so far won their past three meetings in 2012 (Rome, French Open, London Olympics).

“He’s been playing really well,” Djokovic said about his upcoming opponent.

“There’s no secrets between each other, between us. I mean, we [have] played many times, played a lot of important matches on the big stage. He’s a very powerful player, big serve, big forehand, and if that works, he can win against anybody on any surface, to be honest. So there is no clear favourite, I think, in tomorrow’s match. We have both been winning quite comfortably. It’s going to be a good final hopefully for the tournament,” he added.

Djokovic has posted a 64-11 win-loss record this season after he has beaten Germany’s Florian Mayer in the semifinals. He’s gunning for win number 65.

The Serbian star has already secured his place for next month’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London. Tsonga, on the other hand, is still aiming for a spot and it is further strengthened now that he has reached this far in the tournament.

“I felt really good on the court. I’m just happy today with my game. I’m sure I will play good tennis in final,” Tsonga said.
