The 2012 WTA Championships Istanbul begins today and the world’s top eight singles players plus two alternates and four top doubles teams are in the Turkish capital to compete for lucrative cash prizes and important ranking points that will solidify their place in the 2013 season. Probably the most surprising entrant at the elite eight is Italian Sara Errani.
Errani has played 74 matches, winning 54 of those matches. She’s accumulated four International-level titles this season and her performances at the Grand Slam events are not to be overlooked. She reached her first Grand Slam singles final at the 2012 French Open, and reached the semifinals at the US Open. Aside from competing at singles, Errani will be competing at the WTA Championships Doubles event as well.
