Roger Federer aims for a repeat win at Madrid Masters 2013

After more than a month off the tour, world number two Roger Federer is raring to play and this time it will be at a tournament that he has won three times – the Madrid Masters. The defending champion joins top-ranked and 2011 winner Novak Djokovic and two-time winner Rafael Nadal at the famous La Caja Mágica in the Spanish city. The Madrid Masters starts on May 5.

The Swiss star will have to defend the title at red claycourts this year after a backlash caused by experimenting on blue claycourts last year. He defeated Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic for the title. Heavy favorites Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal suprisingly crashed out in earlier rounds and have stated in interviews that they will boycott the event if the courts won’t be revered back to red clay.
