Roger Federer shrugs off retirement rumors

17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer once again shrugged off rumors of his imminent retirement, saying that he still loves the sport despite the ups and downs.

“Clearly when you win everything, it’s fun. That doesn’t necessarily mean you love the game more. You just like winning, being on the front page, lifting trophies, doing comfortable press conferences. “It’s nice”.

“But that doesn’t mean you really actually love it. That maybe shines through maybe more in times when you don’t play that well. For me, I knew it, winning or losing, practice court or match court, that I love it”

Federer currently has a mediocre season, based on his standards. The Swiss star only one 1 ATP tournament at a grasscourt event in Halle. His streak of 36 consecutive quarterfinals or better appearances at Grand Slam events was snapped at the Wimbledon Championships where he entered the event as the defending champion but lost in the second round.

The Swiss star has stated in previous interviews that he intends to play until the 2016 Rio Olympics.
