Serena Williams solidifes hold on world no. 1 ranking after US Open 2013 win

World number one Serena Williams solidified her hold on the world number one ranking after successfully defending the US Open title on Sunday after defeating number two Victoria Azarenka in a three set thriller. A rematch that’s similar to last year’s tournament where Williams also routed Azarenka for the title.

There are some changes in the world’s top ten on the WTA Rankings released as of Monday, September 9. Li Na rises to world number five while Sara Errani drops to number six after failing to defend the semifinal points earned a year ago. Former top-ranked Jelena Jankovic makes a return to the world’s top ten after an improved performance at the US Open.
