Stanislas Wawrinka hopes Roger Federer will join Swiss team for Davis Cup 2014

World number 10 Stanislas Wawrinka hopes that his good friend and former doubles partner Roger Federer will commit to play for the Swiss team at the Davis Cup 2014 tournament. Switzerland secured its place in the World Group after winning the playoff against Ecuador last weekend. Federer was noticeably absent in the rubber.

Federer has only played one World Group level tie for the home country since 2004 which was a 0-5 loss to United States in February last year.

“My dream is that Roger would text me and say, ‘Go and win this tie and next year I’ll be a part of the team,’ ” Wawrinka was quoted by Davis Cup.com.

Switzerland has yet to win the Davis Cup. The team headed by Wawrinka eliminated Ecuador 4-1 in matches that took place at the Patinoire du Littoral, Neuchatel, Switzerland.

Eric Keller, the Vice President of the Swiss Tennis Federation, said that they will set up a meeting with Federer to check if he’s available for the Davis Cup 2014 tournament. They’ll set this up after determining the World Group draw which will take place on September 18, Wednesday.
