Brisbane International: Roddick rallies to reach final

Top seed Andy Roddick won a tough semifinal match against fourth-seeded Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic to reach the final of the Brisbane International, an ATP 250 tournament and a key warmup tournament to the Australian Open. Roddick won the match 16 63 64 in about two hours.

The former world number one dropped his serve twice in the first set and seemed to have trouble adjusting to the humid conditions. However, he rebounded in the second set to even the match. Roddick won after breaking Berdych’s serve during the third set.

“I think the biggest part of the match was the first couple of games of the second set, where I didn’t want to let him keep rolling,” he said.

Up next for Roddick is defending champion Radek Stepanek, who defeated Gael Monfils of France 62 61. The match is scheduled for Sunday. The women’s final, a battle between multiple Grand Slam winners and former world number ones Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters, is scheduled for tonight.
