Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro is now just one match win away from officially qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals after reaching the semifinals of the Shanghai Masters on Friday. The 25-year old eliminated Nicolas Almagro of Spain 6-4, 6-3 in 72 minutes. Last week, the duo met in the semifinals of the Japan Open Tennis Championships where Del Potro also won.
Del Potro currently has 4,180 points at the ATP Race To London standings. He’s aiming to qualify for the prestigious eight-man event for the fourth time. His best result was a runner-up finish in 2009. The ATP World Tour Finals will take place from November 4 to 11 at The O2 in London.
Del Potro awaits the winner of the Rafael Nadal vs Stanislas Wawrinka quarterfinal which will take place later on Friday.
