Novak Djokovic declines Swiss Indoors Basel wildcard as well

World number two Novak Djokovic is set to rest and prepare really well for the Paris Masters by not participating in either two of the ATP 500 hardcourt events that will be taking place this week.

A few days ago, it has been reported that the Serb was offered a wildcard to participate at the Valencia Open 500 but he declined. Now with Rafael Nadal pulling out of the Swiss Indoors Basel, feelers were reportedly sent to Djokovic to reconsider and participate at this event instead. However, Djokovic once again declined.

This puts the spotlight to five-time Basel champion Roger Federer, seeded third at this event. The Swiss Maestro, who used to be ballboy at this event, will have a chance to garner significant ranking points to assure his place at the ATP World Tour Finals in London. He’s currently eighth in the Race to London standings.

It can be recalled the Federer was considering not participating at this event after negotiations for his presence at this event reportedly went sour. Tournament Director Roger Brennwald reportedly balked on the financial demands set by Federer’s team and instead went ahead to sign up Rafael Nadal to ensure star power at the event.

Defending champion Juan Martin Del Potro becomes the top seed at this event followed by Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic.
