Caroline Wozniacki hires Maria Sharapova’s former coach Thomas Hogstedt

Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki has officially announced that she has hired the services of Thomas Hogstedt as her new coach. Hogstedt used to coach Russia’s Maria Sharapova.

Hogstedt and Sharapova ended their partnership after the Wimbledon tournament earlier this year with the coach stating that he wanted to spend more time with his family. According to reports, the Swede and Wozniacki have confirmed their partnership just prior to the uS Open tournament but opted not to make this announcement back then.

Wozniacki, a former world number one, has been coached mostly by her father, Piotr ever since her junior years. She had brief coaching partnerships in the past with Ricardo Sachez and Thomas Johansson during the 2012 and 2013.

“I am excited to start training with Thomas,” Wozniacki said in an interview with Ekstra Bladet. “I’m ready to develop my game and to work harder than ever before. I know I can also be a player who can win a Grand Slam. Thomas is very professional and positive. He is tough and pushes you to the limit. He has done a good job with both Li Na and Sharapova.”

“I very much look forward to my new challenge as coach of Caroline and to improve her game,” Hogstedt said via the interview with Ekstra Bladet. “Together we will try to reach a level where she can win a Grand Slam.”
