Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams has confirmed her participation at the 2014 ASB Classic tournament. The American former world number one joins Ana Ivanovic, Laura Robson, Monica Puig and others.
“It is a great privilege to have someone of Williams’ calibre here in Auckland – she is undoubtedly one of the all-time greats in women’s tennis,” says Tournament Director, Karl Budge.
“It will be an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch Venus’ powerful baseline and attacking all-court game up close, a real treat for those who snap up tickets to the ASB Classic.”
“This is a real coup for the ASB Classic, and demonstrates what an important lead-in role the tournament plays in relation to the Australian Open. Williams has ended her 2013 campaign after an early round loss at the China Open. A week prior, she reached the semifinals of the Tokyo Pan Pacific Open.
