Djokovic signs up exclusive deal with watch brand Seiko in time for Australian Open 2014

World number two Novak Djokovic of Serbia has secured another lucrative endorsement deal this week alone, having confirmed via his official account in Facebook that he has signed up with watch brand Seiko.

The Japanese watch maker has chosen the Serbian tennis superstar to be its global endorser and it is a three-year partnership. Novak Djokovic is currently in Melbourne as he prepares to defend the Australian Open title. Djokovic is a four-time champion at this Grand Slam event and a three-time defending champion.

The agreement came just two days after the world number two confirmed that he’s the new global brand ambassador for French automaker Peugeot. This is Djokovic’s second endorsement deal with a Japanese firm, having snagged an apparel deal with clothing giant Uniqlo.

To officially seal the partnership, Seiko President Shinji Hattori travelled personally to Melbourne to give Djokovic a Seiko Astron GPS Solar watch.

Part of the agreement includes Seiko supporting the Novak Djokovic Foundation through raising money for the charity from proceeds of its Lorus watch that will be released in June this year.

“We are delighted that Novak selected Seiko and we are honoured and proud to be his partner for the next three years,” the company said in a statement on Djokovic’s website.

“We admire Novak as a player, of course, but we also admire him as a person who has a rich range of interests and a very varied lifestyle.”
