Rafael Nadal said during the press conference that he’s really not there to exact revenge on Djokovic who won their last two meetings this season – at the French Open and Monte Carlo Masters.

“It’s an exhibition match,” Nadal said. “The purpose is to try to play a good match where we have some fun and create good fun for the people.”

“Novak is having an amazing season. I texted him after the U.S. Open but I want to say today in a public way, it’s amazing the way that he’s playing during the whole season,” Nadal said. “The mental strength and the level of tennis is difficult to equal.”

Both players have competed in Thailand before when there was still an ATP event there. Djokovic last participated at the Thailand Open in 2008 where he lost to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France while Nadal was there in 2010 for the same tournament where he lost in the semifinals.
