Belarussian teenager Victoria Azarenka achieved a career-high ranking of eight this week. However, this 19-year old phenom is setting her sights on the world’s top ranking in the near future.

“That’s the goal. That’s the whole reason I’m playing. I think everybody’s goal is to try to be number one,” Azarenka said after winning the Sony Ericsson Open last weekend, her third title of the year and the biggest to date.

The Belarussian was quick to clarify that she’ll do her best to make it to the top and not boldly predict that she’ll get there.

Tennis experts have been keeping her under their radars ever since she won the Australian and US Open juniors championships in 2005.

This week, Azarenka announced that she has pulled out of the Family Circle Cup due to shoulder injury. This means, she’ll have to make do with being in eighth place in the rankings.
