Roland Garros proceeds with retractable roof plan

Two years from now, the Roland Garros Stadium will have a retractable roof to prevent rain delays at the French Open tournament. This plan got the green signal from the French Tennis Federation, which already chose the architect for this multimillion-dollar project.

On Wednesday, the organization unanimously chose Marc Mimram to spearhead the project. Mimram is well-known for having designed the overpass that connected Germany and France across Strasbourg’s Rhine River.

Roland Garros will become the third Slam venue to have a retractable roof, the first two being the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
