American Serena Williams and Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova only met once in clay, at the 2004 Rome Open quarterfinals where the American prevailed. Last they played was at this year’s Australian Open quarterfinals and once again Williams prevailed. Holding a 5-1 win edge in their past matches, Williams is certainly the favorite to win the encounter. However, Kuznetsova has had impressive finishes at the Roland Garros, finishing runner-up in 2006 and semifinals last year.
