This will serve as the second Davis Cup meeting between Israel and Russia. The last time they competed with each other was 25 years ago with the Russian team prevailing (3-2).

These two teams reached the World Group quarterfinals after Israel defeated Sweden (3-2) and Russia ousting Romania (4-1) in the first round matches. The Russia-Israel match will take place at the Nokia Stadium in Tel Aviv from July 10 – 12, 2009.
