World Team Tennis: Anna Kournikova to skip season due to injury

A wrist injury has forced tennis player Anna Kournikova to miss the rest of the World Team Tennis (WTT) season, the organization announced this week.

WTT officials said that the former world number eight made the decision after experiencing pain during a practice session and that she has not responded to therapy or to a series of cortisone shots. The 2009 season would have been the Russian’s 7th season with WTT.

In a statement, Kournikova said that she’s very disappointed that she won’t be able to compete this season but she’s going to work hard on her rehabilitation in order to become fit for next year.

Despite this announcement, the Russian will still attend her team’s matches in Philadelphia later this week.
