Australian Open: Gilles Simon withdraws due to knee injury

France’s Gilles Simon has pulled out of the Australian Open because of a chronic knee injury that has been plaguing him for the past couple of months. The last time he played was at the Paris Masters in November.

The 25-year old former top ten player was already in Melbourne. It was during the practice sessions when he realized that he could not play at his best level at the Australian Open, which begins on Monday. He said that taking part in the tournament would end up “bad than good.”
