BNP Paribas Open 2011: Dolgopolov, Malisse clinches men’s doubles title

It has been a successful fortnight for Alexandr Dolgopolov and Xavier Malisse after the duo wn the men’s doubles event at BNP Paribas Open 2011. What’s impressive is that this is the first pairing of the duo in the men’s tour. They defeated Olympic gold medalists Stanislas Wawrinka and Roger Federer at this ATP World Tour 1000 tournmanet.

“We just said hi before this tournament, and we weren’t like really close. He just asked me, ‘Do you want to play?’ like 15 minutes to the deadline of the doubles because I wasn’t planning playing doubles here and here we are, winning the tournament. So it’s pretty amazing,” Dolgopolov said.

The Ukrainian-Belgian duo had an impressive fortnight, defeating top-ranked doubles team Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, US Open doubles runner-up Aisam Ul-Haq Qureshi and Rohan Bopanna and Federer-Wawrinka.
