Andy Roddick, Juan Carlos Ferrero pull out of Roland Garros 2011

Two former world number one players have officially pulled out of the French Open 2011 tournament, the second Grand Slam of this season.

American Andy Roddick and 2003 Roland Garros Champion Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain announced that they won’t be able to compete at this claycourt Slam due to right shoulder injuries.

Ferrero, also a French Open runner-up in 2002, has only played five matches this season. He’s currently ranked 72nd in the world. Roddick is currently ranked outside of the world’s top ten after less than impressive results this season so far. The American’s best result in Roland Garros was reaching the fourth round two years ago.

Lucky losers (players who lost in qualifying rounds) will replace the two players.
