Roger Federer loses to French player in Rome Masters third round

The preparation of world number three Roger Federer for the Roland Garros 2011 hit a snag on Thursday after suffering a 6-4, 6-7, 6-7 loss to French player Richard Gasquet in the third round of Rome Masters 2011.

The Swiss star was the favorite choice to win the match considering that he won his last eight matches against Gasquet. However, his baseline errors have piled up to give his opponent the much needed advantage, especially in the tiebreakers of both the second and third set.

“I definitely feel I should never have lost this match. I just couldn’t come up with the shots,” Federer said.

Meanwhile, his rivals Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have advanced to the quarterfinals of Rome Masters 2011 after beating their opponents in straight sets.
