Roland Garros 2011: Kim Clijsters loses in second round against 114th-ranked player

In one of the biggest upsets at the Roland Garros 2011 so far, two-time French Open finalist Kim Clijsters was booted out in the second round by 114th-ranked Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands with the score of 36 75 61. The Belgian world number two had two match points in the second set but her opponent managed to save those and eventually went on to take the momentum of the match.

“I started doubting a little bit. When you start doubting yourself on any surface, but for me definitely on clay, it’s the wrong attitude to have,” Clijsters said.

Clijsters was unsure about taking part in this year’s French Open after suffering an ankle injury last month. The Belgian tennis star won the last two Grand Slam tournaments (2010 US Open, 2011 Australian Open).
