2011 Eastbourne features Venus Williams and Serena Williams

Tennis fans going to Eastbourne for the Premier-level AEGON International 2011 are in for a great treat as two of the world’s best tennis players make a much-awaited comeback at the WTA tour via this event – Venus Williams and Serena Williams.

A year ago, the sisters have occupied the top two in the world’s rankings. However, injuries have forced them to play full time on the tour. Thirteen-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams was out of action for nearly a year due to a right foot injury and hematoma and pulmonary embolism that required multiple surgeries. Venus Williams, on the other hand, played only two tournaments since the Wimbledon 2010 tournament – at the US Open and this year’s Australian Open. She was hampered with abdominal and hip injuries.

The participation of the Williams sisters at the Eastbourne 2011 tournament signals their major comeback on tour. They have not participated at this pre-Wimbledon event for more than ten years, opting to prepare for the grasscourt Slam in the past by practicing at their home in Florida.
