A-Rod still a threat at Wimbledon

Andy Roddick will head to Wimbledon next week looking to once again challenge for the title that has come so close to being his on three occasions. The three-time beaten finalist is running out of chances to win the famous trophy and will be doing everything he can again this year. The 28-year-old has found his path to success at Wimbledon blocked by Roger Federer on his three appearances in the final. It remains to be seen whether there will be a fourth this year.

With the way the top four dominate the game it is perhaps fair that Roddick’s odds this month seem to be fairly long. The American will start the week as the eighth seed but his experience at this tournament is up there with any of this week’s competitors. This will be Roddick’s 11th trip to the All-England Club and not many can compete with the powerful American’s impressively consistent record at this Grand Slam. Those who have placed a Wimbledon bet 2011 on one of the big four will know Roddick could still prove to be a threat.

There will be many that believe Roddick has missed the boat in regards his chances of adding to his 2003 US Open title. Although 28 is far from young for a tennis player, it is by no means the time to put A-Rod out to graze. His serve is still probably the most dangerous in the world and the experience of mind makes up for what the body has lost over the years. It will take a significant improvement from Roddick’s semi-final defeat to Andy Murray last week at Queens if he is going to challenge in next week’s slam and the Wimbledon tennis betting reflects this.

Murray strolled through the two players tie at the AEGON Championships in straight sets. Roddick appeared way off the pace and was clearly outclassed by eventual champion Murray in front of a passionate British crowd. He will have been well aware of the importance of the upcoming few weeks though, and may have been holding something back in reserve. That will be the hope of his legions of fans at least. If anyone deserves to win Wimbledon before they retire, then it’s hard to look much further than Roddick.
