ESPY Awards 2011: Rafael Nadal nominated for Best Male Athlete, Tennis Player

Top-ranked Rafael Nadal of Spain may become the first tennis player to win the prestigious ESPY Award for Best Male Athlete after being nominated together with Dallas Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki, Green Bay Packers Aaron Rodgers and NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson.

Aside from the aforementioned nomination, Nadal was also nominate for the category of Best Male Tennis Player. The other nominees in this category are Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. Federer has won this category six straight times.

Fans can cast their votes via the internet until July 9, 2011. The winners will be announced at the ESPY Awards 2011 in Los Angeles. Saturday Night Live cast Seth Meyers will host the show.

Last year, the ESPY Award for Best Record-Breaking Performance went to Nicolas Mahut and John Isner for their record-setting Wimbledon 2010 first round match which took three days to finish.
