Jo-Wilfried Tsonga continues French domination with Moselle Open victory

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France won the Moselle Open title last weekend at Metz, France after beating Croatia’s Ivan Ljubicic (2005 winner) 6-3, 6-7, 6-3. This means that the Metz event has been won by a Frenchman for the past three years – Gael Monfils (2009), Gilles Simon (2010) and now Tsonga.

By winning the title, Tsonga received €72,600 plus additional 160 ranking points which strengthens his bid to become part of the elite eight-man Barclays ATP World Tour Finals which takes place in November. Tsonga is currently ranked no. 7 for the year-end tourney.

“I am so happy to have won the title, it was a long time since I lifted a trophy and I am happy I was able to do here in Metz, in front of the French public,” said Tsonga.
“I really feel good, I am happy on the tennis court, things are working well and I hope I can continue that way. My goal for the season is to qualify for London, I was there two years ago and I didn’t play. I hope this time I will be able to play,” he added.
