Guy Forget named as new Paris Masters tournament director

Former professional tennis player Guy Forget has been named as the new tournament director for the Paris Masters event starting next year, strengthening speculations that the former world number four will step down as the team captain for the France Davis Cup team in 2012.

“The French federation has decided to hand Guy Forget the reins of the tournament for the years to come,” French federation general director Gilbert Ysern said in a press conference on Saturday before the Paris Masters semifinals.

Forget was quoted as saying early this week that 2012 “probably” will be his last year as the Davis Cup team’s captain.
The 46-year old has earned several victories in his years as a Davis Cup player, having won the title in 1991. As a team captain, he has led the France Davis Cup team to two final appearances – in 2002 (lost to Russia) and last year (lost to Serbia).
