Roger Federer wins third Madrid Masters crown, regains number two ranking

Roger Federer won his 20th Masters title on Sunday after beating Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 at the Mutua Madrid Masters tournament. The win also marked the return of the Swiss star as world number two once the rankings are updated on Monday.

The 30-year old tennis superstar once more tied Nadal’s haul of ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crowns. Nadal won his 20th in Monte Carlo. Federer holds the number two ranking for the first time since March of 2011.

Federer also increased his head-to-head series record against Berdych to 11-4.
