French Open 2012: Nadal earns 50th win at Roland Garros, to face Ferrer in semifinal

World number two Rafael Nadal seemed unstoppable on his favorite court after dismissing compatriot and claycourt specialist Nicolas Almagro 7-6(4), 6-2, 6-3 at their quarterfinal match on Wednesday to earn his 50th match win in Paris.

The Spaniard joins fellow tennis greats Guillermo Vilas (56), Roger Federer (54), Ivan Lendl (53), Andre Agassi (51) and Nicola Pietrangeli (50) with fifty or more wins at Roland Garros.

Nadal will next face another compatriot – number six David Ferrer for a spot in the final.

“You cannot expect to win an easy match in [the] quarter-finals of a Grand Slam, [the] quarter-finals of Roland Garros. [It] was a tough one, but I am through and I am very happy,” Nadal was quoted as saying.

Nadal is looking forward to playing against Ferrer in the final. He has a 15-4 head to head series lead against Ferrer and it is important to note that Ferrer, a claycourt specialist himself, has never beaten Nadal on this surface.
