Andy Murray keeps British hopes alive at Wimbledon

World number four Andy Murray is still on course to the title match at the 2012 Wimbledon Championships with a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory against Marcos Baghdatis on Saturday. The match just went a bit past the 11pm curfew at the Centre Court.

Up next for Murray is Marin Cilic of Croatia. Cilic outlasted Querrey in five hours and thirty minutes, posting a 17-15 victory in the fifth set. This is the second longest match recorded at Wimbledon.

“When I got up at 4-1 I tried not to sit down. I don’t know what the rules are, maybe the first time that’s happened here,” Murray said.

“Tough conditions. I was really struggling. I struck the ball a bit better under the roof and served better,” he added.

Murray has reached the Wimbledon semifinals for three consecutive years and last year he lost to Rafael Nadal. With Nadal out of the tournament during the first week, this could be Murray’s biggest opportunity to improve from his multiple semifinal round finishes at the All England Club.
