Spain’s David Ferrer captured his fifth title of the 2012 season by winning the SkiStar Swedish Open. He defeated compatriot and fellow claycourt specialist Nicolas Almagro 6-2, 6-2.
“It has been the best season of my career, I have won five titles,” said Ferrer.
“I have never done this well and I am very happy for that. I work hard, I always fight every match and every year I try and improve on my game,” he added.
Ferrer continues to dominate Almagro in their head-to-head series at 11-0.
When asked about his perennial ranking of number five and as to whether he could break the world’s top four, Ferrer said that he’s not thinking about it.
“I think the Top 4 are amazing players, and they are better than everyone else at this moment. I don’t think about the Top 4, I think about me and the Top 10,” he said.
