Roger Federer lands as Forbes Magazine’s highest paid tennis player

He may be ranked 3rd in the ATP World Tour rankings right now but money-wise, Swiss star Roger Federer is far up in the rankings.

In this week’s Forbes Magazine, the list of the world’s highest paid athletes has been revealed and for the year 2012, Federer has amassed estimated earnings of $71 million. He is in fact the highest paid tennis player in the world. Overall, he is the second highest paid athlete in the world, just trailing golfer Tiger Woods who earned an estimated $78 million the previous year.

Forbes stated that Federer “has the most impressive endorsement portfolio in sports.” Among his ten major sponsors include top brands such as Nike, Rolex, Wilson, Credit Suisse and Moët & Chandon among others.

“Federer is as bankable as they come,” the magazine stated.

“He has never faced major injury that sidelined him for months, like many elite players, and over the past decade, he has reached at least the semi-finals in the vast majority of tournaments, which keeps him in front of TV viewers and in the press.”

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic and fourth-ranked Rafael Nadal made it in the list on 28th and 30th place respectively. WTA stars Maria Sharapova (22), Serena Williams (68) and Li Na (85) also made it to the elite top 100 list.
