Serena Williams blasts past Errani in 46 minutes to secure French Open final berth

World number one Serena Williams made true to her promise not to lose focus in clinching her second French Open title after the dismal first round loss in Paris last year. She’s now in the Roland Garros final for the second time in her career after dismissing last year’s finalist Sara Errani of Italy 6-0, 6-1 in just 46 minutes. The American will next face Russian defending champion Maria Sharapova in the final.

It was an impressive match for Williams, who posted 40 winners out of the 52 points she won in the game. She only committed 12 unforced errors. Meanwhile, Errani won two winners and only committed three unforced errors.

Williams has so far lost 21 games leading into the final, she lost ten games in her first four matches and lost another ten in her tough three-set quarterfinal win against 2009 champion Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Williams has now won 30 consecutive matches with title runs in Miami, Charleston, Madrid and Rome.

This is the 20th Grand Slam final for the 31-year old tennis superstar and is 15-4 in those. She could increase her haul to 16 Grand Slam singles title if she beats Sharapova and history dictates that the American has dominated Sharapova since 2004.

“She played unbelievable – that’s it,” said Errani.

“When she plays like this, it’s very difficult for me to play. She’s very strong so there’s nothing to be done. Playing doubles has not affected me physically. Honestly, I enjoyed playing today. It was a great court, great weather, everything. I tried everything and gave my all. She had a great day. This is sport,” the Italian added.
