Djokovic sets up Wimbledon quarterfinal clash with Berdych

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic produced a near-flawless performance at the Wimbledon 2013 Championships fourth round match on Monday wherein he eliminated 13th-seed German Tommy Haas in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 7-6. This is Djokovic’s 17th consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal or better finish.

“He’s always tough,” said Djokovic. “Coming into this match I knew I had a bad record against him on grass. He’s a grass specialist, he has great variety in game, can come to net. It was a tough challenge for me, but I played a really, really good match.”

Up next for the 26-year old Serbian star is Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych. Djokovic is aiming to reach the semifinals at the All England Club for the fourth consecutive year. He won the title in 2011 (defeated Rafael Nadal).

As for his upcoming match?

“I lost to him the only time we played on grass back in 2010,” said Djokovic, referring to Berdych. “I think that I am playing really, really good tennis at this moment. Maybe even better than 2011, when I won this tournament. I am confident on the court and trying to maintain this level. I hope I will succeed.”

Djokovic does have a 13-2 head to head series lead over Berdych. However, their last meeting was won by Berdych at the Rome Masters quarterfinals. The other win was at their meeting at the 2010 semifinals.
