Mikhail Youzhny wins Crédit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad title

33rd-ranked Mikhail Youzhny was the last man standing at the Crédit Agricole Suisse Open Gstaad tournament which concluded on Sunday. The Russian, the first from his country to win this Swiss event in 18 years, defeated Robin Haase of Netherlands 6-3, 6-4 in the final.

“I’m very happy,” Youzhny said. “When you win a tournament, it doesn’t matter how you’ve played or who you beat. My last title was at the start of last year in Zagreb, so it’s been quite long. I’m trying everything to try and play more consistently at a high level.”

Youzhny received €74,000 and 250 ranking points.

The tournament garnered significant media mileage due to the participation of world number five Roger Federer. However, the Swiss superstar was bounced out in the second round by Daniel Brands of Germany.
