Murray fights back from two sets down to beat Verdasco at Wimbledon

World number two Andy Murray had to fight back from two set deficit in his quarterfinal match at Wimbledon 2013 championships to win against Fernando Verdasco of Spain 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, 7-5. This earned the British tennis star the right to face Jerzy Janowicz of Poland in the semifinals on Friday.

“You’re concerned how the match is going and that you may lose. But when you’ve been in that position a lot of times, you know how to think through it and not get too far ahead of yourself. I definitely didn’t rush when I went two sets to love down. I slowed myself down, if anything, and that was a good sign,” Murray said.

This is Murray’s fifth straight year in reaching the semifinals or better at the All England Club. Murray has a 1-1 head to head series record against Janowicz. However, their most recent meeting saw Janowicz upsetting the Briton at the 2012 Paris Masters where the Pole went on to reach the final (lost to David Ferrer).

Murray is looking forward to the semifinal encounter and he knows the caliber of his upcoming opponent.

“He is one of the best young players on the tour. He served at 140 miles per hour, he is an aggressive player and very tall. He is a great athlete and it will be a difficult match,” he said.
