Brian Baker among eight recipients of US Open 2013 main draw wild cards

American Brian Baker, who came back on tour after several months of recuperating from an injury that he incurred at the Australian Open in January, was among the eight recipients of the US Open 2013 main draw wild cards. This is a great opportunity for Baker, who was touted as one of the most promising players of this generation, to make a mark once more in the tour.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA) released the eight recipients of the main draw wild cards this week. Aside from Baker, here are the other seven recipients:

Ryan Harrison (USA), currently ranked 102nd in the world;
Bradley Klahn (USA), the 2010 NCAA singles champion;
Rajeev Ram (USA);
Rhyne Williams (USA);
Collin Altamirano (USA), the 2013 USTA Boys’ 18s champion;
James Duckworth (AUS);
Guillaume Rufin (FRA)

Baker won his first round match at US Open last year. It was his first return at the US Grand Slam event since 2005. He was out of the tour for the better part of the seven years since 2005 due to series of operations for numerous injuries. At the Australian Open in January, the American injured his right knee which required surgery. He competed at a challenger event last week.
