Citi Open 2013 Final features Del Potro vs Isner

The Citi Open 2013 final will conclude on Sunday and the two finalists have been determined – Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro vs John Isner of the United States.

Del Potro, the tournament top-seed, booked a place in the final after defeating third-seed Tommy Haas of Germany 7-6, 6-3 in a match that had a rain delay in between. The Argentine was trailing 1-4 in the first set before rain delay postponed the match. When the match resumed, so did Del Potro’s recovery.

“I was down in the beginning, but I think the rain helped me to come back in the first set,” said del Potro. “I was lucky in that moment, but in the end I played so solid.”

Eighth-seed John Isner, fresh from a title victory in Atlanta last weekend, continued his win streak with a three-set victory over Dmitry Tursunov in the semifinals.

“Against Isner, here in the United States, [on] hard courts, and with his serve, it’s going to be a really terrible match for me but I will try to return some serves and play my game. Being in the final means a lot to me,” Del Potro said.

The Argentine has a 3-0 head to head series over Isner and all of those victories came from American hardcourt events.
